Just before Christmas I was invited by Claire Louise, blogger and PR, to go on a Jack the Ripper walking tour with Ripper Vision! I’ve heard a lot about these bizarre historical tours about murderers, ghosts and monsters, but I never dared to go on one, so of course I was interested…. I guess! Thinking back now, why was I even afraid in the first place, Jack the Ripper Walk was nothing but enjoyable – other than the rain.
The actual walk took place last Sunday in East London, around Aldgate. The meeting point for this walk was not completely random because it’s the area where Jack the Ripper murders took place! For my international readers who doesn’t know who this guy is (well, I didn’t know before I came to London), he was basically a serial killer in the 1880s who murdered prostitutes and ripped out their innards. To this date no one has ever found out about his identity! I found it both fascinating and bizarre that they have tours named after him, but you know, people love murder stories!
The tour was 2 hours long, but it didn’t feel long at all because there were so much to take in! Of course it wasn’t two hours of walking, we stopped at a few places for some story telling, including the exact locations where the murders took place. We were literally following Jack the Ripper’s footsteps! Without the killing part of course, but we did see some “not so pleasant” pictures of his five dying/dead victims.
You must think that this is a crazy way to spend a Sunday evening, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself! I’d say that it was a really fun historical tour as not only did we hear the story about Jack the Ripper, but we also learnt a lot about London in the 1800s. May I also add that Richard, the tour guide made this tour extra exciting because he was an extraordinary storyteller who had a lot of energy and enthusiasm!
To make the tour even better, Richard treated the blogger group to a delicious meal and a round of drinks at an Indian restaurant called Mumbai Square. We ended the evening with a little quiz on Jack the Ripper. Sadly, I didn’t win anything.
Sorry about the blurry photos, I took these with my phone which didn’t cope well in the dark. 🙁
I totally wanted to do this and was worried I would get way too freaked out and scared- the london dungeons scare the hell out of me hahah, but I might have to see what it's all about now when I next stay in london xxx

It's nothing like the London dungeons, it's more like a fairly relaxed story telling tour so there's nothing to worry about! 🙂 x
I went on that tour a few years ago and loved it!!! I absolutely love that kind of stuff I'm such a geek. xx

Yes, it's a fun thing to do when you're in London. x
This looks like fun. One of the things I love most about London is the history, there's always something to learn.
Exactly! There's always something new to learn about the city you live in! 🙂 x
Ah I went on one of these last year, it was lead by one of the Beefeaters. It was soooo interesting, I loved every minute (even in the pouring rain!) x
